A) Design from raindrop

B) Cutwork - layer 1 - blue chiffon over orange - cable zig-zag - melted lines with soldering iron

Layer 2 - pale blue fabric cable zig-zagged inside shape

Layer 3 - blue chiffon - cable zig-zagged around edges - then melted - cut out shapes to reveal parts of bottom layer.

The use of the chiffon in the bottom and top layers helps to bring out the colours together in the design. (12 cm x 14.5 cm)

Layer 2 - twin needle either side of fabric - edges frayed by rubbing - placed over dark coloured blue fabric (14.5 cm x 12 cm)

Layer 2 - whip stitch - swapped colours round - frayed edges by rubbing slightly (14 cm x 9 cm)

A) Mark-making crayon and pencil on bottom of glass bowl

B) Zig-zag and zig-zag cable on space dyed fabric. Cut out some areas. Placed over bonded coloured fabric (markal and oil pastel). 9 cm x 9 cm

C) Straight stitch moved around in a zig-zag line. Space dyed fabric with wadding underneath. Used 2 colours - orange loosely zig-zagged and blue closely zig-zagged. Felt it worked well but would consider using different shades of orange next time eg dark to light then a blue colour. (8.5 cm x 8.5 cm)

B) Mark-making coloured pencil rubbed sideways on sequin waste

C) Fabric coloured with sponged on byzantia. Layers of straight stitch flowing lines using variegated and plain colours. Sample slightly darker than expected but like the fluid textures and lines. ( 8cm x 8cm)

D) Straight whip and cable whip on bonded coloured fabric (8 cm x 8 cm)

A) Spaced dyed threads and fabric. Cable straight circular dots. Particularly liked this when the orange colour was machined over the top - liked the textures, undulations and flow of colours. (8 cm x 7.5 cm)

B) Mark-making - crayon and pencil over hessian

C) Lines of straight whip - changed over colours. Like the way the different colours of the fabric have been pulled out with the coloured threads. (8 cm x 8 cm)

D) Blocks of straight running into each other. Wanted to create flowing lines and joins. Thick and thin - backwards and forwards. Like the textures, flow and depth created with the variegated and other colour threads. (8 cm x 8 cm)

B) Mark-making crayon circles over netting

C) Flowing lines and circles using straight stitch. Swapped colours over which helped to create depth. Like the spacing which has created a delicate flow. (7cm x 8cm)

A) Mark-making - pencil on textured paper, lighter blue pencil and coloured block on sieve

B) Twin needle upside down and then the other way round on bonded patterned fabric. The orange on top created texture and depth while the sky blue in the bottom created watery effects. The bondaweb texture added texture and dulled down the colour of the fabric. (15.5 cm x 9.5 cm)

C) Cotton scrim to create open areas. Double lines of large zig-zag. Created textured lines and graininess of sand. Appeared dark so placed orange fabric underneath to bring out colours and design. (7cm x 7cm)

A) Mark-making - candle and acrylic inks

B) Drawing suggested zig-zag weaving in and out. Used twin needle zig-zag. Liked the effect without weaving threads through. Placed shimmery fabric behind to create watery effect. Added some hand stitches. I like the textures, depth and having blue in bottom spool and adding yellow-orangy fabric underneath brought it all together. (6.5 cm x 6.5 cm)

C) Mark-making bleach, crayon and gel pen

D) Lines of straight stitch back and forth (6.5 cm x 6.5 cm)

C) Mark-making - short lines in coloured pencil on vase. Yellow lines on a flat surface.

A) Mark making - layers of straight lines using crayon and pencil over sieve

B) Trapped thick and thin threads. Zig-zagged in place. I liked the effect - feel also could have used waves of different colour zig-zag stitches in other areas. (7.5 cm x 7.5 cm)

C) Cable whip stitch big to small. Used a variegated colour in the top. (7cm x 7 cm)

D) Zig-zag whip stitch big to small. I like the variale textures and pattern. ((7 cm x 7 cm)

Mark making - cross marks usings ends of coloured blocks over rolled up tissue paper (B)

(C) Curvey twin needle stitching (7.5 cm x 7.5 cm)

(D) Long and short straight whip stitch. Variegated thread and orange in top. When I used the orange thread I loosened the whip stitch which created longer lines going in the opposite direction. The variegated colours created busyness and directional flow and depth. (7 cm x 7 cm)

(E) Fancy "Z" stitch on machine using whip stitch. Worked at a faster pace with the blue which created areas of denser pattern and stitchery. As well as a cloudy effect the looser areas could be interpreted as a ripple. (7 cm x 7 cm)
